The olive branch is often recognized as a symbol of peace. In Genesis 8, we see it as a fulfillment of God’s promises to Noah. Noah, who had been warned by God of the flood that would come to pass, acted in godly fear to prepare an ark to save himself along with his household, according to God’s instruction. The entire earth was flooded and only Noah and his family were spared. Noah sent out a dove from the ark and when it eventually returned with an olive leaf, Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth. God’s promise was fulfilled and Noah and his family received the peace that comes from a right relationship with God.
